I’ve been fascinated by ugliness ever since I had to drop graphic design as a major half-way through my freshman year of college. I just couldn’t stand the fact that suddenly, everywhere you went, you were bombarded by ads about how easy it was. How ANYONE could become a graphic designer (or “G.D.” as they call it apparently), as long as their arms worked and they weren’t blind. Half a decade later we’re wading through a sea of lame to mediocre ads, photographs, illustrations, and websites. What can we do but start collecting the worst of it and shame it until it disappears?
Of course there’s the other end of the spectrum, too. The beautful uglyiness of urban decay and childish drawings and David Bowie. I hope that stays, and I will do what I can to add to it.
