The NY Times has a pretty good piece on creepy food statues. While probably meant to draw customers in with their jubilant, cheffy charm, we believe the poor sculptsmanship of the face and awkwardness of various hand gestures can actually drive potential diners away. Sure, they’re not as disturbing as some playground decorations. But whereas business owners may see the figures as happy-go-lucky, lovably drunken Babe Ruths, they could also pass as the methed-out embezzling uncle trying desperately to get your nose.
